Jurgen Klopp ‘asks Liverpool for two signings’ to strengthen squad for next season

Jurgen Klopp has reportedly asked Liverpool for two new signings as he looks to strengthen his squad for next season.

Klopp has just led Liverpool to their first ever Premier League title win, garnering 93 points from from 36 games, but would like a couple of new additions as the Reds prepare to defend their crown next term.

As per the Daily Star, citing reports in Germany, Klopp has told Liverpool chiefs he wants to draft in Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara as well as Lille’s 21-year old forward Victor Osimhen.

Former Barca man Thiago has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in recent times, while Nigerian attacker Osimhen has garnered interest from a whole lost of European clubs.

But while it’s always necessary to add to your squad after winning the league, it’s said Liverpool are unlikely to do any serious business in the upcoming window and Klopp may have to make do with the same squad that served him well in the last two seasons.

Speaking ahead of the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Wednesday, the German was realistic about the chances of Liverpool spending big in the summer as he opened about the club’s current situation.

Klopp said: “To strengthen the squad you need money and these are uncertain times. Obviously, uncertain times means for some clubs we cannot do what we would do in non-uncertain times.

“Ask me can we develop the squad and it is probably possible, but only with real money. We have talents ourselves, big talents, and players who can make big steps in our squad. But buying now?

“Just go out there and name whoever you want, whatever the player is, go for it? That is really difficult. We did not invest a lot in the squad last year and that was before Covid.

“If we have money, we will spend. If we do not know if we will have money, we probably will not spend that much. That is how it is.”
