Report: Manchester United ‘fear Jose Mourinho will quit’

Senior figures at Manchester United are said to have “growing concern” that Jose Mourinho will resign as manager at the end of the current campaign.

The former Chelsea boss has come under some pressure in recent weeks after his side fell 15 points behind Manchester City in the title race and he publicly expressed concerns that United were not spending enough to be competitive.

According to the Daily Mail, the 54-year-old has become “an increasingly detached figure, withdrawing more into the inner sanctum of his own coaching team and spending even less time than usual in Manchester” of late.

Mourinho has a family home in London and stays in a hotel when working in Manchester, but “the sheer number of journeys south” has become “troubling for some” at United, who have questioned why he has not made a permanent move to Manchester now that his children have moved out.

Two months ago, big-spending Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain were said to be preparing a summer approach for Mourinho, who has 18 months remaining on his existing deal at Old Trafford.
